What We Learned from CloudFest 2026: 5 Trends Already Shaping Bulgarian Businesses
From AI infrastructure and data sovereignty to cybersecurity and hybrid environments — what global technology trends really mean for companies in Bulgaria.
In March 2026, the Persy team attended CloudFest 2026 — one of the largest international events focused on cloud, internet infrastructure, hosting, AI, cybersecurity, and enterprise IT solutions.
The event took place at Europa-Park, Germany, from March 23–26, 2026, and according to the organizers, brought together 10,000+ participants, 250+ speakers, 150+ partners from 80+ countries. The main theme of this year’s edition was “The Sustainability of Everything”, explored through five key topic tracks: Cybersecurity & Compliance, AI-Powered Cloud Solutions, Corporate IT Evolved, Data Sovereignty, and Finding the Future.
For us, attending an event like this is not simply about being present. It is an opportunity to understand where the market is really heading, what technology leaders across Europe are focusing on, and how these developments are already beginning to affect businesses in Bulgaria.
If we had to summarize the biggest takeaway from CloudFest 2026 in one sentence, it would be this:
These trends are no longer “something for the future.” They are already becoming reality for Bulgarian businesses.
1. AI is no longer just a software topic — it requires real infrastructure
One of the strongest themes at CloudFest 2026 was the role of AI not simply as software or a service, but as a workload with very real infrastructure requirements.
This was especially clear in the dedicated AI-Powered Cloud Solutions track, where the focus was on workloads, bare metal, power consumption, data handling, and the practical deployment of AI in infrastructure environments.
This is highly relevant for Bulgarian companies as well.
Today, more and more organizations want to use AI for:
- internal chat assistants;
- document search and processing;
- process automation;
- data analysis;
- quality control;
- computer vision;
- faster internal operations.
But very quickly, they arrive at the real question:
Where will this AI actually run?
Because AI is not just about subscribing to a software tool. It requires:
- compute resources;
- sufficient storage;
- reliable networking;
- security;
- predictable performance;
- an architecture that can scale.
This is where the real conversation begins — not about “AI as an idea,” but about AI readiness at the infrastructure level.
2. Data sovereignty is becoming a strategic issue, not just a regulatory one
Another topic that stood out clearly at CloudFest 2026 was data sovereignty — in other words, the question of where data resides, who controls it, and how its protection and independence are ensured.
The organizers positioned this topic as one of the event’s five core pillars and highlighted its growing importance for cloud providers, MSPs, IT leaders, and organizations working with sensitive data and AI-driven processes.
For Bulgarian businesses, this is already a very real issue.
More and more companies are working with:
- customer data;
- financial information;
- internal documentation;
- sensitive operational data;
- intellectual property;
- industry-specific or production-related data.
And as they begin to consider AI, cloud services, automation, or integrations, the next question naturally follows:
Do we really have control over our own data?
This is one of the reasons why more organizations are rethinking their approach to:
- private cloud;
- on-premises infrastructure;
- hybrid models;
- local control over critical systems.
This is no longer only about regulation. It is about strategic business resilience.
3. Cybersecurity is no longer a separate project — it is part of the architecture
CloudFest 2026 also sent a very clear message on another critical topic: cybersecurity can no longer be treated as a separate layer added “later”.
The event placed strong emphasis on Cybersecurity & Compliance, linking security not only to technical risk, but also to leadership, trust, resilience, NIS2, compliance, and protection across the entire stack.
This is particularly relevant in Bulgaria.
Many companies still tend to think of security as:
- antivirus;
- firewalls;
- backup;
- a response “if something happens.”
But today’s reality is very different.
Security now means:
- proper architectural segmentation;
- access protection;
- incident recovery readiness;
- infrastructure resilience;
- backup environment protection;
- secure handling of sensitive data;
- readiness for audits, customers, and regulatory requirements.
Especially for companies that:
- work with larger corporate clients;
- participate in tenders;
- operate in more sensitive industries;
- or are part of international supply chains,
this is already a business necessity, not just a “best practice.”
4. “Everything in the cloud” is no longer the universal answer
Over the past few years, many companies naturally moved toward the cloud by default. And in many cases, that was the right decision.
But one of the clearest impressions from CloudFest 2026 was that the market is becoming more mature and more pragmatic.
Companies are increasingly looking not for “one ideology,” but for the right architecture for their specific needs.
More organizations are looking for:
- better cost control;
- more predictable performance;
- less dependence on external platforms;
- greater control over critical workloads;
- the ability to combine different models depending on the use case.
This does not mean the cloud is losing relevance. It means the real question is now:
What should be in the cloud, what should remain on-prem, and what belongs in a hybrid model?
That is exactly the conversation more and more Bulgarian companies are now beginning to have.
5. Companies are no longer just looking for technology — they are looking for the right partner
One of the most valuable aspects of CloudFest has always been not only the content, but also the quality of the meetings, conversations, and partnerships that happen there.
And this was another strong confirmation this year.
The value is no longer just in the product. The value is in the expertise.
Because today, businesses rarely need only:
- a server;
- storage;
- backup;
- a cloud service;
- an AI workstation.
What businesses really need is:
- proper sizing;
- understanding of the actual use case;
- integration into an existing environment;
- long-term sustainability;
- security;
- predictability;
- room for future growth.
And this is exactly where the real difference is made between:
- a product supplier
- and
- a true technology partner.
What does this mean for Bulgarian businesses?
CloudFest 2026 did not show “some distant future.” It showed the present — the reality that Bulgarian businesses are already moving toward.
And if we had to say it directly:
Bulgarian companies are no longer in the phase of deciding whether to modernize their environments.
They are now in the phase of figuring out how to do it the right way.
This means:
- less improvisation;
- less “we’ll deal with it later”;
- fewer fragmented solutions;
and much more:
- strategic planning;
- the right infrastructure foundation;
- security;
- resilience;
- readiness for the next 3–5 years.
Conclusion
For the Persy team, attending CloudFest 2026 was valuable not simply because it is a leading international event, but because it gave us a real opportunity to validate the directions we are already seeing in the local market.
AI, data sovereignty, cybersecurity, hybrid infrastructure, and the need for a stronger IT foundation are no longer abstract topics.
They are now part of everyday business decisions.
And that is exactly why the conversation about infrastructure should not begin when there is already a problem. It should begin before that point.
If these topics are relevant to your organization
If your company is already asking questions such as:
- Is our infrastructure ready for AI?
- Do we have a secure and resilient enough environment?
- What is the right balance between cloud, hybrid, and on-prem?
- Do we need a better storage, backup, or compute architecture?
Let’s have a practical conversation.
Not about buzzwords — but about a real environment that makes sense for your business.
Get in touch with the Persy team to discuss which infrastructure direction is the right fit for your organization.
